Sunday 27 June 2021 saw the first President v Captain's day since pandemic lockdown in March 2020.
In very iffy weather with rain and thunder threatening 36 of us in 4 teams of 9 (3 triples each team) comprising the President's, Club Captain's, Ladies Captain's and Men's Captain's teams played a round robin competition. The teams were colour coded - or even co-ordinated - with the President's team in magnificent Liverpool FC red. The other teams were in other colours; blue (Club captain), green (men's captain) and yellow (ladies captain). A very colourful scene on the green. After an early break because of the rain we completed the competition at around 5pm. Many of us then enjoyed our own picnics, or partook in a shared Domino's pizza delivery
Thanks go to Barry Macbeth for making a great job of devising, organising and managing the competition. Thanks also to Glenda Mogg, Dora Pierce and Pat Allen for doing the bar and tea break.
Congratulations to Daniel Fillary, our youngest member, who acquitted himself well in his debut competition appearance.
The nominated charity was Guildford Lions Club whose fund raising ability has been severely hampered by the pandemic. We raised a magnificent £405 by donations.
Oh yes the result! The winning team was Alan Mogg's Captains Team by the narrowest of margins from the President's team (stewards' inquiry!) and took home the handsome new trophy.
