Saturday 20 September
27 members in 5 teams took part in this year's September Triples competition. Congratulations to Sutton's Seeds who snatched victory from Kershaw's Krushers On the final day the Krushers had 6 points having already played all of their matches. The Seeds played their final match on Saturday and both teams ended up with 6 points. So the result was decided by points difference.
Sutton's Seeds team was Keith Sutton, Bob Hughes, Brian V+Conway, Vernon Bailey and Rosey Holliday. Well done. Don't eat the chocolates all at once!
Sunday July 29
A big thank you to John Kershaw's band of volunteers who braved the hedges this morning to clear out the brambles. A job well done!
July 14
Congratulations to all Burpham club members who took part in the Wonersh Open 2024. Our winners (pictured) did so against competition from around 20 clubs within the Surrey area. Not sure when flip-flops became approved bowling footwear though!
Well done also to other Burpham members attending the open day; Pauline Covele, Chris Starr, Colin Colbrook and Cheryl Messenger. Mike and Karen King also competed in a team with friends Barbara and David from Merrow BC.
July 13
Simon was also a member of the Surrey Mens team which defeated Sussex in the Home Counties Final 2024 at Egham BC. Eight counties took part.
May 5

PETER CHALLENS' 80TH BIRTHDAY DRIVE
36 people turned out to play on Peter's birthday drive on the sunny Saturday of 11 May. More folks turned up to spectate and help Peter to enjoy the event. Can't remember who won but the author had the dubious honour of skipping the team that enjoyed the biggest defeat against the oldest team! No matter, the free drink and pork pies provided fair compensation.
The day took place thanks in no small way to Alan Mogg and Liz Hyland.
Peter was also joined by his sons Rob and Stevie and girlfriend Honey who helped him celebrate the big day.
More images from the day can be viewed here.
APRIL
42 members gathered on 19th for the pre-season meeting. Full details of the proceedings can be downloaded here.

NEW ADDITIONAL STORAGE
The new mini shed in the courtyard has now been delivered, assembled and commissioned.
Many thanks to all concerned in making this come about: Ade Hughes managed the project, Mick Pearce and Peter Manser laid the base and assembled the shed, and Barry Macbeth managed to retain his sanity while he negotiated agreement and lease over months with Guildford Borough Council.
A quantity of stuff has been transferred from the men's changing room, from under the benches and on top of the lockers. And a few small bits from under the ladies benches and bits and pieces from the bowling shed including 3 ex-SMPAC folding tables.
Great job folks! 👏
Feb 18 Burpham v Merrow indoor match
This annual event was a very enjoyable affair. A game of bowls and a roast dinner for just £13!! It could have been more enjoyable, but lets not dwell on the result! So what is so remarkable about this game that makes it worthy of a mention here.
Well, notwithstanding the above item this was the first club outing showing off our new livery.
Jan The Dorset Bowls Resort Trip,
The Dorset Bowls Resort in Bere Regis is all inclusive with indoor bowling and golf. It is set in the beautiful Dorset countryside a few miles from the iconic Jurassic Coast.
12 of our members joined Castle Green, Merrow and Clacton on Sea bowling
club members for 4 days of bowling and much more! The facilities offer high class
dining (4 choices per course) and bed and breakfast. The accommodation is
either en suite room in the hotel or stunning log cabins with en suite rooms.
The one million pound championship standard three rink bowling arena was opened in 2009 by David Bryant CBE and Tony Allcock MBE. It is ideal for full length or short mat bowling. The arena includes a large viewing gallery for spectators, changing rooms, showers, a gymnasium, sauna and massage shower.
There is a large menu of bar food at reasonable prices for lunch and a fully
equipped bar, with sensible pricing.
The entertainment includes a quiz, live singers, dancing and a presentation
evening. All are great fun and ensure each day ends on a high. The staff are
friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble, they really do want their
guests to have a good time.
Activities during the day include some initial fun bowling (men v women)
followed by a 2-day team competition. The schedule of the bowling allows
plenty of time to enjoy the other attractions both on and off site. There’s golf
(included), a gym, pool table or country walks in the beautiful local
countryside. If you want to go further afield there’s The Tank Museum at Bovington or
Monkey World nearby.
The cost for 5 days 4 nights is surprisingly low. The dates for next year are
13th to 17th January, places are limited so if you are interested let Colin
Colbrook, Alan Mogg or John Kershaw know as soon as possible.
Not sure? Have a chat with any of the 12 who went (pictures and names
above). There will be a display in the clubhouse in the next 2 weeks sharing photos, stories and other information to help you to decide. Click here for more information about the Dorset Resort
