At the end of that the 4 group winners were drawn to play the quarter finals. Linda Macbeth played Geoff Sheldon and John Rowlands played Alan Mogg. Geoff and Alan progressed to the final - President v Club Captain! Geoff emerged victorious!

4 - 5 Sept

Finals weekend took place over 4 and 5 September. Day 1 weather was warm but overcast but day 2 was warm and sunny. Perfect!

Day 1 saw the Handicap singles final between Peter Challens and Simon Fillery, the Novice singles final between Brian Harrison and 3-time finalist Mick Pearce, and the Crossman Plate final between Andy Jones and Wendy Sheldon. The Handicap singles was a very high quality match with Peter finally managing to wrest victory. The Novice singles was described by our Competitions secretary as one of the highest quality games he'd seen in that competition. After trailing Mick for most of the match Brian managed to turn it around at the last moment to steal the victory. The Crossman Plate was nip and tuck for the first half of the game until Andy went found another gear and achieved a quite comfortable victory.

Day 2 morning saw Simon Fillary in action again skipping his Miller Triples team of Chris Macleod and Mick Pearce in the final against president Geoff Sheldon's team of Linda Macbeth and John Rowland. Simon's team team eventually achieved victory by 2 points.

Champion duo

In the blue riband singles finals Simon managed to reverse his defeat of last year against Nick Anderson, and Sarah Fillary deposed 5 times champion Carolyn Hart so achieving a first time husband and wife dominance of the singles titles.

In the Men's Pairs Andy Jones and Mick Pearce defeated Peter Challens and Jim Milsom. In the Ladies Pairs Glenda Mogg and Ruth Milsom defeated Wendy Sheldon and Sue Gorman so denying Wendy a second successive title. The Mixed pairs was between Keith Sutton with Catherine Hughes against Nick Anderson and Chris MacLeod. Chris's continued her superb form from the previous day's Miller Triples to help ensure victory for her and Nick.

11 September

Further success came for the Fillary's when they overcame David and Carolyn Hart to win the Aussie Pairs competition and lift the Rochester Trophy for the second successive year.

13 Sept The final Whicher Cup session today saw David Osborne maintain his lead to take the trophy from Vince Hopkinson by 10 clear points. Congratulations David.
