Burpham’s special day, July 22nd, in aid of the Frimley Park Stroke Unit, raised some £655 in memory of playing member Eunice Williams.
The weather was a little warm, but the turnout of both players and spectators, and the organisational skills of club president, Barry Macbeth and his wife Linda, turned the President v Captain’s Day into a great success.
First order of the day was a traditional spider competition where the bowlers stood all around the edges of the green then, on command, all bowled at the spider in the centre. The winner being the one whose bowl came to rest closest to the spider. And that was Tony Usher! Well done Tony.
The main event of the day was a progressive triples competition based on our winter whist drives. Don't ask me to explain further especially as me and my team came nowhere! Ian Mackrel's team won. Congratulations! Wendy and her team came second.....will I ever be allowed to forget!
The players, and spectators, enjoyed a magnificent al fresco meal afterwards in the shade of several gazebos. Well over 50 prizes were donated for the raffle that helped secure such a wonderful contribution to the day’s chosen charitable cause.
