The main finals took place over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd September. The weather on Saturday 2nd was perfect - warm sunshine. The Miller Triples final was played in the morning when Barry & Linda Macbeth and Sarah Longhurst got the better of Bert Forrest, Wendy Sheldon and Vince Hopkinson. The afternoon saw the Mens and Ladies Singles and the Mens Pairs finals played out. After a strong start by Keith Sutton, Graham Liley fought back to take the lead after 18 ends and eventually ran out the winner by 21 -14. In a tightly contested Ladies match Carolyn Hart finally took a lead after 23 ends and held on to win by 21 - 18 in the next end. Vince Hopkinson and Peter Challens made a strong start in the Mens Pairs establishing and 8 point lead to no reply after 5 ends. They continued to lead until the eleventh end when Barry and Dougie overhauled them to run out winners by 18 - 15.
Conditions on the second day were somewhat different - cold and wet! Four finals were played. In the the Crossman Plate Nina Challens and Bert Forrest fought a close contest until Nina got ahead of Bert after 21 ends and then won after 24 ends. Nina also collected the Handicap Singles title by default after Alan Mogg had to withdraw. The Novice Singles saw Brian Conway trailing Sue Gorman by 18 - 3. With Sue stuck on the dreaded 20 for 6 ends Brian fought back to get within 2 points . Sue finally got over the finish line after 22 ends running out the winner by 3 points. In the Ladies Pairs Wendy Sheldon and Pat East took on Linda Macbeth and Barbara Hopkinson. It was a rather one-side contest in Linda and Barbara's favour until Wendy and Pat got back to within 3 points. But Linda and Barbara managed to maintain their momentum to win by 2 points after 21 ends. The Mixed Pairs the contest was close and the lead changed hands frequently. A Hart was always guaranteed to win and on this occasion it was David with Glenda. So a good finals for multiple winners Nina and the Macbeths but not so good Vince appearing in three finals but always on the wrong side!
The 2017 Finals actually started with the Chipchase Cup two wood pairs competition on 4 June. It was contested by the only two unbeaten pairs from the group stage. The winners were Graham Liley and Glenda Mogg, runners up Keith Sutton and Mo Barnfield.
