Over a decent Bank Holiday weekend of 28 & 29 August- especially the Monday - the main club finals were played out. A tense domestic battle saw Vince Hopkinson overcome Barbara Hopkinson to take the Novices Singles title. Peter Challens broke the Robertson/Liley monopoly of recent years to lift the Mens Singles trophy. Rex Thorpe won the Handicap Singles, and Carolyn Hart won the ladies Singles competition for the 3rd time in 4 years! And we must congratulate Eunice Williams on her double victories in the Ladies and Mixed pairs competitions! It was a shame our President couldn't join us.

On 3 September the Squibb Salver competition kicked off at 11am in glorious sunshine. After the group stage the semi-finals were fought out between Carolyn Hart and Eddie Allan, and Linda Macbeth and Shelagh Spencer. Carolyn and Linda won through to the finals just as the rain clouds gathered and in increasingly heavy rain Carolyn took the title. Perhaps it should be renamed the Damp Squibb Salver! It was dry and warm in the clubhouse for the rest of us though.......so not all bad!
